Major Punjab City Starts Free Insulin Home Delivery

Authorities have started registering diabetes patients in Rawalpindi under the Punjab Chief Minister’s door to door insulin supply program. Officials have also begun home delivery of insulin for 35 registered Type-1 diabetes patients.

The District Health Authority said its diabetes awareness campaign explained that Type-1 diabetes is a lifelong condition in which the body stops producing insulin altogether. Insulin plays a key role in moving sugar from the bloodstream into body cells to produce energy.

Health officials warned that the absence of insulin can cause blood sugar levels to increase to dangerous and potentially life threatening levels.

District Health Officer (Preventive) Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Jawad said patients with Type-2 diabetes can often manage blood sugar through diet control, physical activity, medication, and in some cases insulin. He said insulin is not required for every Type-2 diabetes patient.

He added that health department teams are following the approved procedure for identifying, verifying, and registering patients, as well as delivering insulin. He said officials are strictly monitoring the cold chain and maintaining proper records during distribution.
