PCB Announces Mandatory Conditions for New PSL Teams

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has unveiled key rules and financial conditions for the two new PSL teams joining the 2026 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 11).

Investors from Pakistan, the UK, the US, and other countries have shown strong interest in acquiring ownership stakes, with the auction scheduled for January 8.

Under the new regulations, the winning bidders will not be allowed to sell or transfer their franchises during the first three years. Transfers can only occur from the fourth year onward, subject to prior written approval from PCB and a transfer fee equal to 10% of the annual franchise fee.

A detailed financial model has also been established for the new teams. Like existing franchises, they will receive up to 95% of revenue from the central pool. For PSL 11 onwards, the seventh and eighth teams are guaranteed a minimum of Rs. 85 crore for the next five editions. Should a franchise earn less than this amount, PCB will cover the difference.

Franchises can include the city name in their team title, but they must obtain prior written approval from PCB. Use of commercial brands or suffixes from existing teams, such as Qalandars, Kings, United, Zalmi, Gladiators, or Sultans, is prohibited. Team logos also require PCB approval, and commercial logos are not allowed.

All bidders are required to submit their proposed team name and logo as part of their technical proposals. Revenue from the central pool earnings will be distributed equally among all franchises.

From PSL 11 to PSL 20, each team is entitled to a minimum percentage of central pool revenue, in addition to earnings from sponsorships, ticket sales, and other commercial activities. After deductions for taxes, production, and licensing, teams will retain 95% of media rights revenue and 85% of central licensing income.

The PSL Governing Council retains the authority to adjust revenue shares for one or more tournaments, and the PCB will finalize the revenue percentage for franchises after the 20th edition.
