The Traffic Engineering and Planning Agency (TEPA) has decided to upgrade traffic signals and the pelican system across the provincial capital.
Officials announced the decision during a review meeting at the TEPA office, chaired by Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General (DG) Tahir Farooq. The meeting reviewed progress on installing modern traffic signals at 20 major junctions in the city.
TEPA Chief Engineer Iqrar Hussain and the Director Traffic Engineering briefed the meeting and said the agency will expand the project after the successful pilot at Faisal Chowk. The new traffic signals will include a video vehicle detection system.
Officials said the upgraded pelican system will improve pedestrian safety and convenience. Authorities will link the modern signals with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) traffic system and the traffic police.
DG Tahir Farooq said the pelican system will help improve traffic flow across the city.
The project covers GPO, High Court, Regal, Governor House, Davis Road, Canal Road Junction, Zafar Ali Road, Fortress Stadium, Jinnah Chowk, Sarfraz Rafiqui Road, Secretariat, Ferozepur Road, Muslim Town Mor, Bhekewal, Dubai Chowk, Barkat Market, Firdous Market, Askari 10, and Parvez Aslam Chowk.
