Murree Announces New Year’s SOPs for Tourists

The Murree district administration has announced a comprehensive set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for New Year celebrations to ensure public safety and maintain law and order in the hill station.

According to the Murree District Police Officer (DPO), Section 144 will remain in force from December 31 to January 1, limiting public gatherings during the holiday period.

As part of the SOPs, entry to Mall Road and G.P. Chowk will be restricted to families only, while individuals or groups not traveling with families will not be allowed access to these key areas.

The SOPs clarify that non-family visitors may move around surrounding streets, nearby localities, and other tourist spots; however, Mall Road will strictly remain open to families during the enforcement period.

Authorities have also introduced zero-tolerance measures under the SOPs, including a complete ban on aerial firing, fireworks, alcohol consumption, and street altercations. Police have warned that anyone found violating these rules will face strict legal action.

In addition, tourists have been directed to strictly follow traffic regulations and cooperate with law enforcement officials deployed across the city. Police have emphasized that compliance with the SOPs is mandatory to ensure a peaceful environment for residents and visitors alike.

For emergencies, citizens and tourists have been advised to contact the police helpline by dialing 15.

Officials said the SOPs aim to prevent overcrowding, discourage unlawful activities, and ensure smooth New Year celebrations in Murree.

Murree, located in the Galyat region of the Pir Panjal Range, remains one of Pakistan’s most visited hill stations, particularly during public holidays. Due to the heavy influx of tourists during festive periods, authorities regularly enforce special SOPs to manage crowds and enhance security.

The administration has urged tourists to plan their visits responsibly and strictly adhere to the announced SOPs to avoid inconvenience during the New Year holidays.
