Oman has tightened entry requirements for foreign workers and warned of a strict crackdown against those submitting fraudulent or forged documents.
Under the country’s professional accreditation system, expatriate workers must now verify their educational and professional qualifications before entering Oman. Authorities have cautioned that submitting fake certificates will result in severe penalties.
Director of Professional Standards at the Ministry of Labour, Zahir bin Abdullah Al Sheikh, said the measures aim to regulate the labour market, prevent credential fraud, and improve workforce quality in key sectors.
Under the new system, expatriates seeking jobs in regulated professions, including engineering, logistics, and accounting, must undergo pre-arrival assessment and approval of their qualifications through sectoral skills units.
A work practice licence will be issued only after verification, while entry permits will be granted only after licence approval.
Penalties for violations include bans, fines, licence cancellation, deportation, and referral to courts. Authorities said employers will also be held accountable if they facilitate or ignore violations.
