The Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) has sealed Haideri Beverages and Beverages Plus, the main distributor of a famous international beverage brand, located in Humak Model Town, Islamabad.
Sources informed ProPakistani that the raid was conducted without prior notice by the Islamabad Food Authority, in coordination with the ICT Assistant Commissioner, following reports of serious food safety violations.
Sources reported that during the inspection, officials discovered expired and fungus-infested sugar allegedly used in the production of beverages.
The inspection team documented four major violations of food safety regulations, including blatant non-compliance with earlier instructions issued by the Islamabad Food Authority; approximately 150 sugar bags with tampered expiry dates, indicating false labeling; cockroach infestation on sugar bags; and sugar stored directly on the floor, in violation of hygiene and safety standards.
Sources further said that food authority staff collected two separate samples of spilled sugar for laboratory analysis.
Pending the test results, authorities took action by sealing a staggering 54,874 sugar bags across both facilities.
In addition, entire warehouses were sealed, and all production, sale, and purchase activities were immediately suspended until further notice.
Officials said the expired sugar alone is worth millions of rupees.
