The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) recovered a record Rs. 6.213 trillion during 2025, marking the highest annual recovery in the institution’s history, NAB Chairman Lt. Gen. (retd) Nazir Ahmed informed Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday.
The NAB chairman called on the prime minister at the Prime Minister’s House and presented the bureau’s annual performance report for 2025. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar was also present during the meeting.
While reviewing NAB’s performance, the prime minister lauded the integration of modern tools, including AI-assisted investigations, and the introduction of an e-office framework, describing these measures as aligned with the government’s objectives of austerity, efficiency, and transparency.
The prime minister reiterated full support for NAB’s professional independence and its mandate to safeguard national resources.
Briefing the prime minister, the NAB chairman stated that the recoveries included 2.98 million acres of state and forest land valued at approximately Rs. 5.99 trillion. He further reported that Rs. 180 billion was recovered and returned to 115,587 victims of fake and fraudulent housing and investment schemes, calling it a major public service that helped restore citizens’ confidence in state institutions.
The chairman added that initiatives such as the NAB Open Court and the Central Complaint Cell have significantly improved public engagement, helping bridge the gap between citizens and the state and repositioning the bureau as a platform for grievance redressal rather than intimidation.
