Islamabad to Become Sister City of Major South Asian Capital

Islamabad–Kathmandu sister cities initiative came under discussion during a meeting between Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Muhammad Ali Randhawa and Nepal’s Ambassador Rita Dhital at the CDA Headquarters.

The two sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral cooperation with a special focus on urban-level collaboration between the capitals of Pakistan and Nepal. The meeting was attended by Member Administration of the CDA Board along with other senior officials.

Matters of mutual interest and ways to further deepen bilateral relations were discussed, with Chairman CDA stating that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Nepal and views them with respect and goodwill.

During the discussion, the Nepali ambassador appreciated Islamabad’s natural beauty and urban planning. She highlighted the role of the CDA in preserving the city’s natural landscape and promoting sustainable urban development, noting that green spaces and large parks contribute to a peaceful urban environment in the federal capital.

Chairman CDA informed the envoy that Islamabad’s green core is being preserved strictly in accordance with the city’s master plan. He also briefed her on ongoing initiatives for the beautification and uplift of the Diplomatic Enclave, stating that improving the enclave remains a priority of the authority.

The meeting also covered progress on a draft agreement to formally declare Islamabad and Kathmandu as sister cities, on which work is currently underway. Discussions were held regarding the plot allocated for the Nepali Embassy in the Diplomatic Enclave, with Chairman CDA assuring full cooperation for the early resolution of all related matters.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing mutual cooperation and strengthening relations at the urban and institutional levels.
