Punjab Introduces New Requirement for Property Transactions

The Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA) has made it mandatory to include the buyer’s name and CNIC number on the Fard Baraye Bay, a key legal document used in property transactions, to enhance transparency and prevent fraud across the province.

In a statement issued on Friday, the PLRA said the new requirement will ensure that every Fard Baraye Bay issued for sale purposes clearly identifies the intended buyer, reducing the risk of duplication, forgery, and misuse.

Under the new policy, the buyer’s CNIC-linked details will be recorded from the outset, creating a secure digital trail and strengthening investor protection.

The authority said the measure would also help end paper-based manipulation and limit the role of the traditional patwari culture in land dealings.

According to the PLRA, the reform will allow online verification of the document through the Punjab Land Records Portal, making land transactions more reliable and citizen-friendly.

The Punjab government said the move is part of its broader drive to modernize land records and safeguard people from fraud during the buying and selling of property.

Fard Baraye Bay is a legal document issued to verify land ownership for sale, confirming that the property is free from disputes and eligible for transfer to the buyer.
