The Punjab government is reviewing an initial estimate of Rs3 billion for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Basant Festival, sources said on Tuesday.
According to documents submitted by the vendor, Jalal Salahuddin & Productions, the opening ceremony is proposed to be held at Shahi Qila, while the closing ceremony will take place at Asif Jah Haveli.
The plan includes arrangements for over 500 guests at each event.
The cost estimate includes millions of rupees in artists’ fees. Singer Fareeha Pervez is proposed to receive Rs5 million, Sahir Ali Bagga Rs3.2 million, and Arif Lohar Rs5.5 million for their performances during the festival.
Officials said the budget also allocates more than Rs800 million for taxes, significantly increasing the overall cost.
Meanwhile, the government has invited proposals from event management firm M-Comm, known for organizing large-scale state events, including the Horse and Cattle Show.
Sources added that the government is expected to finalize a decision on Basant Festival expenses and arrangements soon.
