The Punjab government has released a new Basant anthem as it ramps up celebrations in Lahore.
Titled “Phir Aai Basant”, the song has been launched by the Information and Culture Department and was shared through Alhamra Lahore’s Instagram as the official soundtrack for what the government is calling one of Punjab’s most anticipated cultural events. The anthem is performed by Sialkot-based singer and composer Bilal Saeed.
The accompanying music video features model-actor Nabeel Zubairi along with food blogger Ali Rehman and is filmed in old Lahore, including shots near the Lahore Fort’s well-known picture wall.
With bright costumes, energetic choreography, and classic city backdrops, the visuals lean heavily into Basant’s signature vibe, color, music, and rooftops alive with celebration.
Unlike typical festival releases, the anthem also carries a clear message on compliance and responsibility. The lyrics include a warning about consequences for breaking rules, followed by a reminder to celebrate in a responsible way, an apparent nod to the safety concerns that have long surrounded Basant.
The song arrives days before Lahore’s three-day Basant festival, scheduled to begin February 6, with exceptions in certain locations near the airport.
To encourage participation, the chief minister has announced free travel on 419 buses, Metro Bus services, the Orange Line train, and 6,000 Yango rickshaws during the festival period. She has also said over 700,000 motorcycles in Lahore have been fitted with safety rods, with free installation camps set up across the city.
During a media briefing on festival arrangements, Maryam Nawaz also pointed to Basant’s deep cultural roots, saying the tradition dates back centuries and marks the arrival of spring.
