Around 12,000 temporarily appointed school teachers in Punjab are reportedly still waiting for their salaries for the past three months.
According to reports, School Teacher Interns (STIs) recruited for government schools have not been paid for December, January, and February. The continued delay has left many of them struggling to manage everyday expenses and other essential needs.
Despite not being paid, the interns are continuing to fulfill their teaching responsibilities in schools. However, the ongoing uncertainty around their payments has placed them under serious financial pressure.
Temporary teachers have appealed to the provincial education minister to step in and resolve the matter, urging authorities to release the outstanding salaries without further delay.
At the same time, the hiring of more than 12,500 additional temporary teachers remains on hold. With thousands of teaching positions already vacant in public schools across Punjab, the situation has increased the burden on existing staff.
The School Education Department has said that the pending salaries of the STIs will be cleared soon.
