The Rawalpindi Development Authority has cautioned the public against 293 illegal and unauthorized private housing schemes operating within its jurisdiction and announced strict action against their owners and developers.
Acting on the directions of Commissioner Rawalpindi and Director General RDA Engineer Aamer Khattak, the authority’s Metropolitan Planning and Traffic Engineering Directorate issued a public advisory highlighting multiple violations by project sponsors.
The schemes fall within the limits of the Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi as well as the tehsil and district councils of Rawalpindi, Taxila, Gujar Khan, Kallar Syedan and Kahuta.
According to the authority, developers launched several schemes without obtaining formal approval under the Punjab Development Authorities Private Housing Schemes Rules, 2021. Other violations include submitting incomplete applications, failing to meet mandatory requirements, withdrawing applications after legal proceedings began and proceeding without an approved Layout Plan signed by the competent authority.
The RDA also identified unauthorized development, illegal marketing and advertisements, booking and sale of plots, expansion beyond applied land and major deviations from approved plans. Officials detected these breaches through site inspections, surveys, public complaints and monitoring of media platforms.
The authority has initiated legal proceedings, including issuance of notices, registration of FIRs, sealing of offices and project sites, demolition of illegal structures and referral of cases to the Federal Investigation Agency over unlawful advertisements.
The RDA urged citizens, including overseas Pakistanis and property investors, to verify the approval status of any housing scheme through its official website before making transactions.
