Punjab Govt Launches Fund to Support Needy Artists

The Punjab government has taken a major step to provide financial security to deserving artists by establishing a special Rs50 crore fund under the Punjab Artist Service Card program.

The initiative aims to improve the lives of artists across the province through monthly stipends, grants, and other welfare measures.

Eligible artists will receive a monthly allowance of Rs5,000, with the initial phase seeing 63 artists provided Rs15,000 each. Payments will be disbursed through the Bank of Punjab.

Earlier this year, the program invited applications, receiving a total of 2,702 submissions. After scrutiny under the established rules, 1,831 artists were deemed eligible.

Their data has been shared with the Punjab Social Protection Authority, and the fund disbursement process has commenced.

Under the program, deserving artists will also benefit from:

  • Educational grants of Rs300,000
  • Medical grants of Rs200,000
  • Other support amounting to Rs100,000

Additionally, proposals are under consideration to provide a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 for artists aged over 80 and a relief scheme for those above 54 years of age.

This comprehensive initiative reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to uplifting the artistic community, ensuring financial stability, and recognizing the contributions of artists to the province’s cultural heritage.
