HEC Forms New Committee to Monitor Universities

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has constituted a nationwide committee to monitor and evaluate the implementation of its policies, programs, and projects in higher education institutions across Pakistan.

According to a notification issued by the HEC Coordination Division on March 5, the committee includes representation from the federation, provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Under the notification, Lt. Gen. (retd) Moazzam Ejaz, rector of the National University of Technology in Islamabad, will serve as the convener for the federal component of the committee.

Other federal members include Lt. Gen. (retd) Dr. Muhammad Zahid Latif, rector of the National University of Sciences and Technology; Dr. Anila Usman, rector of the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences; Dr. Muhammad Mansoor Ahmed, vice chancellor of the Capital University of Science and Technology; and Dr. Muhammad Shahid Soroya, director general of the Pakistan Institute of Education.

For Punjab, Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, chairperson of the Punjab Higher Education Commission, will act as convener. Members include the secretary of the Punjab Higher Education Department, Dr. Sumaira Rehman, member of the commission; Dr. Muhammad Kamran, vice chancellor of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur; and Dr. Qaisar Abbas, vice chancellor of the University of Sargodha.

In Sindh, the committee will be convened by Dr. Tariq Rafi, chairperson of the Sindh Higher Education Commission. Other members include the secretary of the Universities and Boards Department, Government of Sindh; Shahnaz Wazir Ali, president of the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology; Dr. Tehmina Nagraj, vice chancellor of the Begum Nusrat Bhutto Women University Sukkur; and Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi, member of the commission.

For Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr. Johar Ali, vice chancellor of the University of Peshawar, will serve as convener. Members include the secretary of the Higher Education, Archives and Libraries Department; Dr. Razia Sultana, vice chancellor of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar; Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid, rector of the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology; and Dr. M. Sadiq Khattak, vice chancellor of the University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar.

From Balochistan, Dr. Zahoor Ahmed Bazai, vice chancellor of the University of Balochistan, will act as convener. Members include the secretary of the Colleges, Higher and Technical Education Department; Dr. Rubina Mushtaq, vice chancellor of the Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University; Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir, vice chancellor of the University of Gwadar; and Dr. Ehsanullah Kakar, member of the commission.

For Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Muhammad Zakria Zakar, vice chancellor of the University of Kotli, will serve as convener. Members include the secretary of the Higher Education Department; Dr. Anila Kamal, vice chancellor of the Women University of AJK Bagh; and Lt. Gen. (retd) Dr. Asif Mumtaz Sukhera, vice chancellor of the Mohi-ud-Din Islamic University.

For Gilgit-Baltistan, Dr. Atta Ullah Shah, vice chancellor of the Karakoram International University, will act as convener.

The committee will monitor and evaluate the implementation of HEC policies, programs, and projects in higher education institutions throughout the country.
