Punjab Issues Alert Over Fake Medicines in Medical Stores

The Punjab Drug Control Board has issued an alert regarding five medicines found to be fake or substandard being sold at medical stores across the province.

Laboratory testing revealed that specific batches of medicines failed to meet quality standards. Authorities found that certain multivitamins for bones and calcium were counterfeit and were being sold in pharmacies despite being produced by a pharmaceutical company in Islamabad.

Officials also declared a popular cough syrup substandard and contaminated. Additionally, a pain relief injection manufactured in Lahore was found to contain unwanted particles.

The report further stated that two veterinary injections produced by pharmaceutical companies in Lahore and Karachi also failed quality tests due to incorrect levels of active ingredients.

Following the findings, the Punjab Health Department has ordered the immediate recall of the affected medicines from medical stores.
