Pakistan Railways Increases Train Fares

Pakistan Railways has announced an increase in train fares across several passenger classes and freight services, effective from March 9, following a rise in diesel prices.

Railways spokesperson Babar Ali said Economy Class fares will increase by 5 percent, while fares for all air-conditioned classes will rise by 10 percent. He added that freight train charges have been increased by 20 percent.

The spokesperson said Pakistan Railways would absorb part of the additional operational costs for passenger services in an effort to limit the impact on commuters. He described the decision as unavoidable due to the sharp increase in fuel expenses.

The revised fares will take effect from March 9, while passengers who have already booked tickets in advance will not be required to pay the additional amount.

The announcement comes a day after the government raised the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs. 55 per liter each.
