The federal government has ruled out the possibility of fuel rationing, warning that such measures could trigger panic and disrupt the country’s fuel supply chain.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik told the Senate Standing Committee on Finance that rationing could create instability similar to what has been observed in other countries.
He mentioned Bangladesh as an example where fuel rationing led to unrest and attacks on petrol pumps and fuel depots.
The minister said maintaining a stable supply chain remains the government’s priority and that pricing decisions were taken to ensure continued imports of petroleum products.
