Iran has drawn up a preliminary list of tough conditions for a possible ceasefire with the United States and Israel, according to a report by Reuters.
The demands include compensation for wartime damages, full control of the Strait of Hormuz and an unlimited missile development program.
A major point in the proposal is Iran’s call for formal control over the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
Iran is also seeking binding security guarantees to prevent future military strikes against its sovereign territory.
In addition, the country has made it clear that it will not accept any restrictions on its ballistic missile program, a key component of its defense strategy and a longstanding point of contention with Western countries.
The terms remain preliminary and have not been officially confirmed by Iranian authorities. However, they give us a little taste of what to expect from any upcoming negotiations and the significant gaps that would need to be bridged to reach a ceasefire.
