PDMA Warns of Flash Floods and Landslides in KP

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert warning of possible flash floods and landslides across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to heavy rain and snowfall expected in several districts this week.

According to the PDMA, a new spell of westerly winds will enter the region on the night of March 24 and may continue until March 31.

Heavy Rain and Snowfall Forecast

The weather system is expected to bring rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms to most districts of the province between March 25 and March 30.

Upper districts, including Chitral, Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Mansehra, and Abbottabad, are likely to receive rainfall along with snowfall in mountainous areas.

Meanwhile, plain districts such as Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Kohat, Kurram, and Waziristan may also experience rainfall and gusty winds.

Risk of Flooding and Landslides

The PDMA warned that heavy rainfall could cause local streams and rivers to overflow, increasing the risk of flash floods in low-lying areas.

Mountainous regions could also face landslides due to persistent rain and snowfall.

In addition, some areas may experience hailstorms between March 28 and March 30.

Authorities Put on High Alert

The PDMA has directed district administrations and emergency services, including Rescue 1122, to remain on high alert and take precautionary measures.

Authorities have also advised tourists to avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas during the forecast period.

Strong winds and lightning could damage weak structures, electricity poles, and solar panels, officials warned.

Public Advisory

Residents have been urged to follow safety guidelines and report emergencies through the PDMA helpline 1700.

Officials say timely precautions and awareness can help minimize risks during the expected severe weather conditions.
