Pakistan is expected to host a meeting linked to ongoing diplomatic efforts around the Iran conflict, international media reported on Friday.
According to Germany’s foreign minister Johann Wadephul, indirect contacts have already taken place, and preparations for direct talks are underway, with Pakistan likely to serve as the venue in the near future.
The development comes after US envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed that Pakistan had conveyed a 15-point American peace plan to Iran.
Wadephul made these remarks ahead of a meeting of G7 foreign ministers near Paris, which will also be attended by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The German diplomat expressed hope that the United States would provide further clarity on its approach and objectives regarding the war during the meeting.
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has recently voiced concerns over the growing costs of the war despite earlier support for US and Israeli actions.
