NITB Requests Rs. 20 Crore for Futuristic Traffic Monitoring Project in Islamabad

The National Information Technology Board (NITB) has sought Rs. 208 million for the Smart Islamabad Initiative in the financial year 2026-27, as the project records 20 percent physical progress.

The total cost of the 24-month project stands at Rs. 708.384 million, with no financial expenditure recorded so far despite ongoing implementation.

Being executed through the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, the initiative aims to improve governance, security, and public service delivery through real-time data integration.

A central Fusion Center will act as the project’s core, linking agencies such as Safe City Islamabad, CDA, and EPA for smarter traffic management and city oversight.

Officials said delays were caused by the late issuance of the No Objection Certificate, though the procurement process is now moving ahead after completion of Stage I of the Request for Proposal.

The project is being positioned as a model for future smart city development in Pakistan, with scope for expansion to other urban centers.
