Iran has said that while understanding was reached on several issues, key disagreements over a few major points ultimately prevented a final agreement in its latest round of negotiations.
According to the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Mumbai, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Dr. Esmail Baghaei stated that the discussions covered a wide range of topics and saw progress in multiple areas. However, differences on two to three core issues remained unresolved, blocking a breakthrough.
Baghaei said the talks lasted around 24 to 25 hours, making them the longest continuous round of negotiations in the past year. He added that despite the extended duration and detailed exchanges, the remaining gaps were significant enough to stop the process from concluding in an agreement.
Officials did not disclose the exact sticking points but indicated that both sides had engaged in intensive discussions throughout the marathon session.
Despite the lack of a final deal, Iranian officials emphasized that the partial progress made during the talks showed continued engagement and willingness to negotiate.
Iran and US remained in tough diplomatic discussions this weekend with international counterparts to agree on a permanent ceasefire in the region. Previous rounds of talks have often seen limited progress. Despite a few positives, some political and strategic disagreements continue to prevent a comprehensive agreement.
