OGDC Officially Starts Production At New Oil Well in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has officially started production from the Baragzai X-1 well in the Nashpa Exploration License area, marking a significant addition to Pakistan’s domestic oil and gas output.

The company confirmed that the well, located in District Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has been successfully brought online following its earlier hydrocarbon discovery announced in March 2026 from the Lockhart Limestone formation.

According to OGDCL, the Baragzai X-1 well is currently producing around 5,300 barrels of oil per day, 17 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, and 15 metric tons of LPG, highlighting strong production potential from the field.

To integrate the new discovery into existing infrastructure, an 8-inch flowline spanning approximately 8.1 kilometers has been constructed to connect the well with the Mela facility. The hydrocarbons are now being processed at the Nashpa Plant, while processed gas is being supplied directly into the SNGPL transmission network.

OGDCL, the operator of the Nashpa Exploration License, holds a 56.45 percent working interest in the project. Its joint venture partners include Pakistan Petroleum Limited with a 26.05 percent stake and Government Holdings (Private) Limited holding 17.50 percent.

As part of the next development phase, OGDCL plans to drill two appraisal wells to further assess the reservoir size and enhance production capacity. Based on the results, the company will prepare a comprehensive field development plan aimed at maximizing output from the discovery.

The company said accelerating the transition of discoveries into production remains a key strategy to strengthen Pakistan’s energy security and reduce reliance on imported fuels.

The disclosure was issued in compliance with regulatory requirements under the Securities Act, 2015 and Pakistan Stock Exchange regulations.
