Pakistan’s major ports remained active despite rising tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, handling a combined 179,335 metric tons of cargo in a single day.
Karachi Port Trust processed 142,182 metric tons in the last 24 hours, while Port Qasim handled 37,153 metric tons, reflecting steady trade flows even amid global uncertainty.
At Port Qasim, multiple coal shipments dominated activity, with several vessels carrying over 270,000 metric tons of coal arriving from Mozambique, Indonesia, and South Africa.
Fuel related cargo also remained significant. A vessel carrying 57,300 metric tons of motor gasoline was handled at FOTCO, while another tanker carrying 40,000 metric tons of high sulfur fuel oil waited at anchorage. A separate shipment of 73,000 metric tons of crude oil is also expected at Karachi Port.
Container activity remained strong, with Karachi Port handling 80,622 metric tons of containerized cargo, including both imports and exports.
Export activity included 32,912 metric tons of cement clinker and 1,557 metric tons of rice, while grain loading operations also continued at multiple berths.
On the import side, 10,350 metric tons of rock phosphate was processed, along with 69,300 metric tons of soybean seed at Port Qasim, supporting local industry demand. Several vessels from global shipping hubs remained anchored and waiting for berthing, indicating continued pressure on port capacity amid strong cargo volumes.
