Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed organizers of religious gatherings to immediately download and activate QR-coded panic buttons at 4,700 Imambargahs across Punjab as part of the Muharram security plan.
During a briefing on Muharram arrangements, officials informed the chief minister that the QR-coded panic button system has been introduced in Punjab for the first time. Once scanned, the code will instantly alert the relevant security and administrative agencies for a quick response.
CM Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to ensure province-wide combing operations, real-time intelligence sharing, and the enforcement of a three-tier security plan throughout Muharram.
Officials briefed the chief minister that 47,280 religious gatherings and processions will be held across Punjab during Muharram, including 37,868 majalis and 9,412 processions.
A total of 125,641 police personnel will perform security duties across the province. To further strengthen security arrangements, 61 companies of the Pakistan Army and 76 companies of Rangers have been requisitioned.
In addition, 30,445 trained volunteers will assist law enforcement agencies in maintaining law and order.
The briefing was also told that the use of drones during Muharram has been banned, while unlawful use of loudspeakers will not be allowed.
The Punjab government will set up cold and sweet drinking water stalls for mourners. The Suthra Punjab Authority has been directed to ensure the use of fragrance along procession routes and at venues of religious gatherings.
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority will carry out live digital monitoring of processions through 5,623 CCTV cameras activated across the province. Officials said 1,040 body cameras and drones will be deployed for field surveillance, while more than 1,000 advanced 4G cameras have also been installed at highly sensitive locations.
