KAPCO Appoints Waqar Ahmed Khan as New CEO

Kot Addu Power Company Limited (KAPCO) has appointed Waqar Ahmed Khan as its chief executive officer for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2026, according to a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

Waqar Ahmed Khan will remain in office until June 30, 2029, succeeding Shahab Qader Khan, who was appointed chief executive in January 2025 for a three-year term.

KAPCO did not disclose the reasons behind the leadership change.

Waqar Ahmad Khan has over three decades of experience in Pakistan’s water and power sector, with expertise spanning engineering, power generation, and executive management. He began his career at WAPDA, where he worked as a professional engineer in controls, protection, instrumentation, and SCADA software.

Since 2005, he has held senior leadership roles in the independent power producer sector. He served as Chief Technical and Commercial Officer of Star Power Generation Limited from 2005 to 2009 and Star Hydro Power Limited from 2009 to 2011. In 2012, he was elevated to Chief Executive Officer of Star Hydro Power Limited, a position he held until 2021. In September 2021, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Rousch (Pakistan) Power Limited and later became CEO of National Power Parks Management Company.

Mr. Khan holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering from UET Peshawar, an MSc in Control and IT from Manchester, and an MBA from LUMS.

KAPCO operates a multi fuel fired power plant in Kot Addu with an installed capacity of about 1,600 megawatts and is among Pakistan’s oldest independent power producers.
