The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved a Technical Supplementary Grant (TSG) of Rs. 10 million for the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs to cover the cost of working lunches, dinners, and tea for parliamentarians during the ongoing federal budget session.
Sources told ProPakistani that the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs informed the ECC that it is responsible for managing parliamentary business, including the budget sessions of both the National Assembly and the Senate.
The ministry stated that the annual budget session is a key constitutional process that requires extended sittings of both houses, often continuing beyond normal working hours.
According to the ministry, the cost of providing meals and refreshments to parliamentarians at Parliament House during the budget session could not be met from the existing allocation under the “Entertainment and Gifts” budget head.
It added that the expenditure was unavoidable, as the Finance Bill must be passed within constitutionally mandated timelines and could neither be postponed nor fully financed through internal budget reallocations.
The ministry therefore requested an additional Rs. 10 million through a Technical Supplementary Grant.
The Finance Division endorsed the request, and the ECC approved the additional allocation under Demand No. 81 of the Parliamentary Affairs Division for the fiscal year 2025-26.
