Cold Storage Facility Planned at Major Airport

The Pakistan Airports Authority has reportedly announced plans to establish a cold storage facility at Islamabad International Airport through a long-term lease arrangement.

The authority will auction the lease rights for the construction and operation of the facility on July 30, 2026.

The auction will begin at 11:00 am in the Red Building Conference Room, Block III, at Islamabad International Airport.

According to the official notice, the proposed cold storage facility will be developed on Plot E-102 near Cargo Avenue.

The plot covers 1,684 square yards. The bidding will start at Rs. 15,750 per square yard, while interested companies must deposit Rs. 1 million as earnest money.

30-Year Lease Offered

The successful bidder will receive the site on a 30-year lease.

The lease may be extended for another 20 years through mutual consent, subject to the conditions of the Pakistan Airports Authority’s Land Lease Policy 2019.

The selected operator will establish, own and manage the facility at its own cost and responsibility.

The site will be leased on an “as is, where is” basis.

Only Licensed Companies Can Participate

The authority said only registered and licensed companies with relevant approvals can take part in the auction.

Eligible companies must have experience or regulatory permission to operate cold storage facilities or temperature-controlled warehouses.

Participants must submit proof of their eligibility to the auction committee before the proceedings begin.

Companies blacklisted by the Pakistan Airports Authority, as well as those that have defaulted on payments to the authority, will not be allowed to participate.

Documents and Participation Fee

Each participant must bring two copies of their CNIC.

They must also submit a non-refundable auction participation fee of Rs. 1,000 and the Rs. 1 million earnest money through a pay order issued in favour of the Pakistan Airports Authority.

The documents and payments must be submitted at the auction venue before bidding starts.

The authority will return earnest money to unsuccessful bidders within 15 days after confirmation of the winning bid.

However, the highest bid will remain subject to approval by the PAA Executive Committee.

If the committee rejects the highest bid, the authority will hold a fresh auction within 30 days.

The planned facility is expected to support the safe storage and handling of temperature-sensitive cargo, including food products, medicines and other perishable goods passing through Islamabad International Airport.

Interested companies can obtain additional information from the Pakistan Airports Authority’s Commercial and Estates Directorate or visit its official website.
