The federal government has officially approved the dualization of the Multan–Lodhran Road, clearing the path for construction work to begin next month.
Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan approved a request from Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.
The 62-kilometre-long project carries an estimated cost of Rs. 4.6 billion and will be funded through the Road Maintenance Account (RMA).
Authorities expect the dualization to be complete within one year. As part of the infrastructure upgrade, workers will elevate 44.8 kilometres of the existing road to ensure both carriageways remain uniform, significantly improving road safety and traffic efficiency.
For years, the Multan–Lodhran Road has remained dilapidated, causing severe difficulties for residents, transporters, and daily commuters.
Frequent travelers complained about the rough terrain and slow traffic flow, which the new dualization project aims to address.
Chairman of the Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani expressed his satisfaction with the project’s approval, stating that the government is fulfilling a key commitment made to the people of the region.
Once finished, the road will offer modern transportation facilities, reduce travel time, and decrease the risk of accidents.
Government departments have already released the funds, allowing machinery to be mobilized at the site within the coming weeks.
