Facebook Introduces Free Verified Badge to Prove You’re a Real Person

Meta has announced a new Facebook Verified badge that allows users to confirm they are real people through a free identity verification process.

The new badge is designed to show that there is a real person behind an account. According to Meta, users can obtain it by completing a selfie-based verification process.

Selfie Videos for Verification

To receive the badge, eligible users must record a selfie video. Meta will compare the video with the user’s existing Facebook profile photos to confirm that they match.

The verification process is expected to take only a few minutes.

Once approved, the badge will initially appear on the user’s Facebook profile, Marketplace, Dating, and Groups. Meta said it plans to expand the badge to Feed posts in the future.

Meta clarified that the badge only confirms that an account belongs to a real person. It does not mean Facebook endorses the user or guarantees that they are trustworthy.

Who Can Get Facebook Verified?

The feature is available to eligible Facebook users who:

  • Are at least 18 years old.
  • Are in good standing under Facebook’s Community Standards.
  • Have not violated policies related to fraud, scams, or deceptive practices.
  • Show no evidence of inauthentic behavior.

Meta said the free verification feature is not available for Facebook Pages or ProMode accounts.

Meta is rolling out Facebook Verified in phases, beginning with selected markets. The company said the feature will gradually expand to users worldwide.
