If you are a student looking for affordable overseas study opportunities, scholarships, or other educational pathways, open Facebook or TikTok on any given day, and your newsfeed will likely be filled with overseas education consultancies promising to help you achieve your dreams.
Whether the people running these consultancies are qualified or not, hundreds of individuals across Pakistan claim to be experts in overseas admissions, often damaging the reputation of the industry in the process.
Over the years, countless students in Pakistan have shared stories of being scammed by consultants who collected large sums of money but failed to deliver on their promises.
They invite prospective students to well-furnished offices, offer tea and biscuits, and tell success stories of students who are now living abroad and earning in pounds or euros. After gaining your trust, they ask for payment, only to leave you waiting while offering an endless stream of excuses over the following days, weeks, months, or in some cases, even years.
In doing so, they not only deprive you of your hard-earned money but also waste the most valuable resource of all, your time.
If a consultancy is genuine, it will be registered as a bona fide company in Pakistan, operate through a Pakistan-based business bank account, and be registered with one or more recognized university admission panels. Many reputable consultancies also have direct recruitment agreements with foreign universities and can provide partnership certificates or official documents verifying those relationships.
Fee structures vary depending on the country and university. Some consultants charge an upfront fee to begin the admissions process, while others wait until you receive an offer letter before requesting payment.
In destinations where consultants do not receive significant commissions from universities, such as Albania, Italy, Austria, or many public universities worldwide, it is perfectly reasonable for them to charge an initial or lump-sum fee to cover their services, including university applications and visa file preparation.
It is important to understand that booking a visa appointment, submitting the visa application, and attending the interview (if required) are always the student’s responsibility, not the consultant’s. A consultant can help prepare your documents and guide you through the process, but they cannot legally attend the appointment or interview on your behalf. Fully funded scholarships are extremely competitive, and there are never enough to meet the demand. Doing so allows you to stay in complete control of the process, understand every step involved, and save a considerable amount of money.

However, students with average or below-average academic records should not expect to secure fully funded scholarships, as these awards are highly competitive and generally reserved for top-performing applicants.
That said, students with average academic profiles can still qualify for many degree programs around the world and may receive international student scholarships or tuition discounts ranging from €500 to €4,000 or even more, depending on their academic performance in Matric, Intermediate, or university. Undergraduate students with a respectable CGPA may also qualify for merit-based scholarships offered by many institutions.
For students with average or below-average academic records, working with a reputable consultancy can often be the best option for securing university admission. You should, however, be prepared to pay a consultancy fee, whether upfront or after receiving your offer letter.
Remember, when you hire a consultant, you are paying for professional advice, guidance, assistance with university applications, and support in preparing your visa documents. A legitimate consultant does not sell visas or guarantee admissions. Instead, they help you navigate the process while coordinating with the university that offers you admission.
Before choosing any consultancy, make sure it is a registered company in Pakistan, has valid and up-to-date partnership agreements with universities or official admission panels, and maintains direct communication with those institutions. These credentials should be easy to verify once the consultancy presents your official admission offer letter.
