30 New Electric Buses to Start Operating on Islamabad Roads in June, Thanks to NRTC

ISLAMABAD: The National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) has commenced the production of electric buses to fulfill the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) demand.

As per the details, NRTC has notified the authority that the production of buses has begun, and the first batch of 30 electric buses will be handed over to the authority next month.

Following the delivery of the first batch, drivers will undergo a two-week training program before the electric buses start operating on the roads of Islamabad in the first week of June.

Initially, these buses will operate on two routes, connecting IJP and Taramri with the Central Metro Bus System.

The CDA plans to operate feeder buses on 13 routes throughout Islamabad, providing high-quality travel facilities to an estimated 100,000 passengers.

Earlier, the CDA issued a tender for 200 electric buses to operate on 13 routes during the tenure of former chairman Captain (Retd) Usman.

However, the tender was reissued due to a lack of interest from only two companies. After holding several meetings, it was ultimately decided that NRTC would provide the 200 electric buses for the new routes.

The CDA is set to receive the second and third batches of 70 electric buses each from NRTC in June and July, respectively.

It is important to note that this move is part of the government’s larger initiative to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable transportation solutions in the country.

The introduction of electric buses in Islamabad is expected to bring about positive environmental changes and provide modern transport facilities to the public.
