ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s first-ever digital census, the 7th population and housing census, which began on March 1, 2023, is in its final stages and will conclude on April 4 (today).
The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) launched the digital census, which includes geo-tagging and real-time data collection and transmission, to address concerns about inaccurate counts and the exclusion of marginalized communities.
According to the chief statistician, as many as 126,000 enumerators equipped with tablets collected data from blocks containing 200 to 250 households.
The digital service of self-enumeration and the option to contact district administration was provided for those who could not get registered due to some reason.
Despite security challenges and reported attacks on census teams in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the enumerators visited every area to ensure the inclusion of every individual in the digital census, as stated by a PBS official.
Furthermore, the details suggest that the estimated expenditure on the exercise was around Rs. 34 billion.
All deputy commissioners were assigned to monitor the digital census by themselves and report to their respective commissioners regularly.
