ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ministry of Climate Change officials have requested a firefighting plane from the federal government to tackle the increasing number of wildfires that have been destroying forests in the country.
This request was made during a Senate Standing Committee meeting on Climate Change where officials discussed issues related to climate change, including a Clean Air Policy that recommends reducing pollution in several industries.
The officials also highlighted that Pakistan is still using Euro2 fuel while neighboring nations have switched to Euro4 fuel.
It is relevant to note that the country witnessed some of its largest wildfires last year, resulting in billions of rupees in losses for local communities.
Besides, Iran had to send its massive Ilyushin Il-76 air tanker to put out a fire that raged for nearly two weeks, highlighting the country’s vulnerability to extreme weather caused by climate change.
