PESHAWAR: The residents and allottees of Regi Model Town (RMT) in Peshawar have been hopeful for solutions to their problems after Engr Ijaz Afzal, a grade 20 officer of the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA), was appointed as the new Director General (DG).
He has replaced the previous DG, Fayaz Ali Shah, who was a grade 19 PMS officer and had been unable to improve the functioning of the civic body during his tenure.
One of the major complaints against the outgoing DG was his habit of coming to the office after 11:30 or 12 noon and leaving before 5 pm to travel to his hometown in Mardan.
This led to a halt in development work and complaints redressal, especially in RMT, where he did not pay a single visit during his whole tenure.
RMT, the largest public sector housing scheme in the provincial capital, has been facing a lack of basic civic amenities, and work on ongoing uplift schemes has stopped over the past year.
The residents have been complaining about this, and despite repeated requests, no attention was given to redressing the problems and developing at least two zones of the housing scheme.
The construction firm, Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), reported the remaining work on the Nasir Bagh Road leading to Zone V, Sakhipul, and adjacent localities, and the bridge on Juma Khan Khwar, could not be continued due to the non-release of funds.
Although the road up to Defence Housing Authority (DHA) was completed except for a small portion and the bridge near the RMT entrance, the remaining portion of the road and another bridge are still incomplete.
Successive governments and the DGs’ lack of interest and commitment, coupled with the “ignorant” attitude of the previous DG, are responsible for the current situation of RMT.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s interest in PDA affairs can be seen from the fact that during the last two and a half years, five DGs were posted and transferred in the Authority. Still, none took an interest in RMT’s development.
However, the residents’ hope has been restored with the appointment of the new DG. They are expecting that he will give attention to the RMT affairs and ask for a progress report on the matters he had issued directives as additional DG.
They are also hoping that he will bring to justice those who intentionally caused loss to the PDA funds and resources.
The major issues faced by the residents are related to electricity, water, and sanitation, and both departments require complete overhauling and check and balance.
The new DG will have to deal with the lobby of directors, deputy directors, and assistant directors, particularly from the electric department and water and sanitation department, who hardly follow any directives.
The residents are optimistic that the new DG will bring about much-needed changes to RMT and improve their living conditions.

Yes we certainly hope from the newly posted DG PDA will show progress on ground of all major issues like starting development works in Zones ( 5,2,1) without any excuse as it’s already the Long standing issue of more than 30 years. and to provide basic living facilities in Zones 3, 4. We expect from the newly appointed DG PDA will work on war footings. thanks with regards
New DG Ijaz afzal retired on the 14th . He was DG for only 14 days
Poor management more political interference and army barriers walls stop public interst think how people of peshawer can build and trust the offices and government.give a clean clean road access then you will see automatic devolopment of rmt.thanks
New DG should work for the allotments of plots in Zone 1.2 and 5. Of RMT which pending from the last 30 years.
We would greatly appreciate if the new DG-PDA may kindly take personal interest in resolving the longstanding issue of Regi Model Town Zones 1, 2 and 5. The allottees are waiting possession of their plots from PDA for which all dues are already paid to the PDA. We hope that with your extraordinary and personal interest, this will be resolved during his tenure- for which all allottees will be ever thankful to him. Once again, Thank you for supporting us in this difficult time. Appreciate. Thanks and regards.
I have a complaint against newly appointed DG ijaz, i requested some maintenance work to be carried out by horticulture department in PDA. They told me that new DG is around and all the working staff is under his control he wants his house, street and sector in hayatabad phase 2 to be beautified rather than any other place. So we will try but not promise.
We are pleased to know a new DG pda took the charge we requested him to solve our main problems in RMT particularly zone 1 and zone 2 noc’s for development and constitution work. Thanks.
Good decision of the Care Taker Government. I offer my services to the new DG without any remuneration or perks.
The Nasir Bagh canal road is insufficient to cope with increasing traffic. It shall be highly appreciated if road from Jamroad Road is constructed to lesson the grievances of the residents of RMT.
This shows the shallow incompetent level of CSS & PMS officers. The only thing they are good at polio campaigns where they get rewards in $$$.
Sick people Sick mentality
He has no more, and retired on 15th April. Badluck spell is not yet over for RMT residents.
I dont think he will do all these because he remain NAB accused and was arrested in the year 2014 or may be 2015 in the case that he took bribe money in millions from the contractor in leasing out of the state land.
