Villagers Lose Ancestral Land to Property Tycoon’s Grandson in Punjab

PUNJAB: A scam involving revenue department officials and powerful developers has deprived 100 villagers of their ancestral land in Malakwal tehsil of Punjab’s Mandi Bahauddin district without their knowledge.

As per the details, the land was transferred to the grandson of a prominent property tycoon through allegedly illegal transactions in the official land record.

In addition, the fraud has also been reported to the anti-corruption agency for investigation, but it would take years for the real owners to get their land back.

Surprisingly, this incident is not unique, as there have been many cases of powerful developers stealing land from unsuspecting owners in Karachi and other parts of the country.

The government’s support of illegal land grabs and evictions of farmers and small business owners highlights the need for extensive documentation to make the real estate sector less lucrative to prevent further scams.
