ICCI to Have a Voice in CDA’s Policy-Making Process

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari highlighted key issues faced by the business community in a meeting with Chief Commissioner Islamabad and Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Captain (Retd) Noor Ul Amin Mengal and his team.

The chairman agreed to address the ICCI’s concerns, including providing ICCI representation in CDA board meetings and allocating plots for the construction of an expo center, school, and hospital, as well as a sports ground.

Mengal also announced that CDA would be providing commercial plots to the business community on lease for 33, 50, and 99 years to facilitate business operations.

He said that commercial building drawings would be approved within a month, and all markets in Islamabad would be developed and upgraded on modern lines.

In addition, the sanitation system in rural areas would be outsourced and public toilets in markets would be built through the private sector on a leased basis.

CDA also plans to construct six more parking plazas through private sector participation to solve the issue of parking in the markets, and nine sectors, including car showrooms and transport terminals, have been exempted from commercial fees.

Besides, CDA Liaison Officers have also been appointed to assist ICCI in resolving CDA and MCI-related issues in the business community.

Former ICCI President and Secretary General UBG Zafar Bakhtawari thanked Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Shehbaz Sharif for appointing a business-friendly person as Chairman CDA and demanded that the term of office of Chairman CDA be given 3 years of constitutional protection.
