LDA Faces Scrutiny as ACE Investigates Illegal Constructions

LAHORE: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has summoned several Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Town Planning officers, including former Director of TP Wing Zone 7, Ali Abbas, who is currently serving as Director of Zone 1.

Also summoned were Deputy Director Umar Majeed, currently working in the CMP wing, and Assistant Director Ghafran. However, none of the officers appeared before the ACE as directed.

The inquiry was initiated based on a complaint filed by Malik Akbar Ali, a resident of the Township, who alleged widespread corruption within LDA’s Town Planning wing.

The complainant claimed that illegal constructions, including plazas, godowns, workshops, and commercial markets, were established in an unauthorized private industrial area on LDA-controlled land without proper approvals or payment of fees, resulting in a significant financial loss to the LDA.

The complainant urged the ACE to take action against the responsible officers and recover the losses incurred.

LDA sources revealed that both Zone 7 and Zone 1 were rife with illegal commercialization and buildings.

The ACE has confirmed that it will continue taking indiscriminate action against corrupt government officials.

The investigation is ongoing, and the officers in question have not yet responded to the allegations.

LDA’s spokesperson reiterated the organization’s commitment to handling inquiries and queries from the ACE with utmost diligence and complying with stipulated timelines.
