Water Tariffs Increased by 250% for Domestic Use in Lahore

LAHORE: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has approved a significant increase in water tariffs for domestic users in Lahore, leading to higher costs for residents.

The caretaker Punjab government has given the green light for the tariff hike, which will impact households of different sizes.

According to the managing director of WASA, the approved tariff rates will result in a substantial increase in monthly bills.

As per the details, for 3 to 5 marla houses, the tariff has been raised from Rs. 375 to Rs. 938. Similarly, for five to 7 marla houses, the tariff has jumped from Rs. 463 to Rs. 1,160.

Similarly, the monthly tariff for 7 to 10 marla houses has increased by Rs. 830, reaching Rs. 1,383.

For 10 to 15 marla houses, the new tariff stands at Rs. 1,603, compared to the previous rate of Rs. 642.

Moreover, the residents of 15 to 20 marla houses will now have to pay Rs. 2,183 per month for water usage.

Furthermore, the tariff for 1 to 2-kanal houses has been set at Rs. 2,765, while 2-kanal and larger houses will be charged Rs. 3,925, up from the previous rate of Rs. 1,570.

The WASA managing director explained that the new tariffs were approved to address various financial matters, including the payment of salaries and electricity bills.

Ghufran Ahmed, a representative from WASA, stated that the implementation of the revised water tariff would commence upon approval from the caretaker Punjab cabinet.
