KP Ministers Review Progress of Dam Projects

PESHAWAR: The caretaker minister for Relief, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement Taj Muhammad Afridi, and Caretaker Minister for Irrigation Fazal Elahi chaired a meeting to discuss the progress and completion of the Bara and Jabba dams in Khyber district, as well as the Warsak Canal System.

During the meeting, the ministers were briefed on the significant benefits that will be achieved upon completion of the projects.

According to sources, it was highlighted that the completion of the Jabba Dam will provide clean drinking water to one million people, while the Warsak Canal System will ensure 300 cusecs of drinking water and 400 cusecs of water for irrigation purposes.

Furthermore, the completion of the Bara Dam will not only irrigate 48 thousand acres of land but also generate 6 megawatts of electricity, in addition to providing 16 cusecs of clean drinking water.

Minister Taj Muhammad Afridi expressed his commitment to prioritize projects that serve the public interest and contribute to the area’s rapid development.

He also urged the stakeholders to address any reservations regarding the projects.

The minister specifically instructed the inclusion of Malagori and Bakarabad areas in the Warsak Canal System project to ensure access to clean water for the local population and to resolve any existing water-related issues.

Moreover, he stressed the importance of surveying other adjacent areas to explore the potential for expanding the project’s coverage.

The Secretary of the Irrigation Department, the Director General of Small Dams, representatives from the affected areas, and other relevant officials attended the meeting.
