CDA Explores Dualization of Pir Sohawa Road to Ease Traffic Congestion

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is considering the expansion of Pir Sohawa Road, which connects the picturesque Margalla Hills National Park and the federal capital with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

This expansion plan aims to alleviate the increasing traffic congestion and provide an alternate route to the Bari Imam area.

According to sources, the Chairman of CDA, Captain (R) Noorul Amin Mengal, shared this information during a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, chaired by MNA Nuzhat Pathan.

He highlighted that the growing traffic and congestion on Pir Sohawa Road have become a nuisance for the Capital Territory Administration.

The Chairman expressed concerns about the adverse effects of vehicular emissions on nature and wildlife due to traffic congestion.

To address these issues, the CDA is considering the construction of a new route from Monal to Bari Imam, aiming to reduce traffic and minimize vehicular emissions.

Initially, surveys are underway to determine the feasibility of dualizing the existing route and finding an alternate path.

Furthermore, the CDA is working on the PC-1 plan to establish a reception and information center in the national park along Pir Sohawa Road.

Mengal also highlighted that the CDA has taken significant steps to protect the national park.

Additionally, the CDA is making efforts to address plastic pollution by installing benches, gazebos, and dustbins made from reusable plastics across the federal capital.
