Court Directs Secretary Ministry of Housing to Appoint Commission for Inquiry on Rigging Allegations

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has taken action on a petition requesting the appointment of a commission of inquiry to investigate allegations of rigging through hacking of the electronic voting system.

The court has issued notices to the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Works and other respondents involved in the case.

According to sources, the petition was filed by architect Syed Qamar Abbas, and the hearing was conducted by Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri.

The petitioner has requested the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing to appoint a Commission of Inquiry under Section 32 of the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP) Ordinance, 1983.

The purpose of the commission would be to thoroughly investigate the claims of rigging through hacking of the electronic voting system and provide recommendations for resolving the electoral dispute.

Furthermore, the petitioner’s counsel argued that the elections for the committee’s term of 2023-25 were conducted using online voting.

They also claimed that there are reports and observations from the company responsible for the online voting indicating a hacking attack on the voting system, which raises concerns about the transparency and fairness of the elections.
