Former DG SBCA and Mukhtiarkar Sent to Jail in Nasla Tower Case

KARACHI: The anti-corruption police arrested Manzoor Qadir Kaka, former director general of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), and Khair Muhammad Dahiri, ex-Jamshed Town mukhtiarkar, on Monday.

The arrests came after a court revoked their pre-arrest interim bail in the Nasla Tower case.

Kaka, who recently returned from Canada, had obtained pre-arrest bail from the provincial anti-corruption court.

Both Kaka and Dahiri appeared in court to seek confirmation of their bail before arrest, which had been granted on July 13 and 26, respectively.

However, Judge Muhammad Ahsan Khan Durrani dismissed their bail pleas and ordered their arrest. Subsequently, the two were sent to prison on judicial remand.

The court has asked the prosecution to provide copies of documentary evidence to the suspects before the next date when they will be indicted.

According to the court order, Kaka, as the head of SBCA, played a distinctive role in the approval of the transfer of property (TP) no-objection certificate, facilitating the illegal construction of the 15-storey Nasla Tower.

It is worth noting that the Nasla Tower, a commercial-cum-residential building on Sharea Faisal, was demolished on the orders of the Supreme Court for violating laws.

Besides, a total of 18 people, including SBCA officers and SMCHS office-bearers, have been indicted in the case.
