From Poverty to Prosperity: Chitral’s Economic Zone Initiative Gains Momentum

CHITRAL: Chitral, the largest district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in terms of area, is set to undergo a significant development transformation through the establishment of its first-ever Chitral Economic Zone.

Despite its vast expanse, the region has faced developmental challenges due to the absence of industries, factories, and substantial business ventures.

As a result, many residents are compelled to seek livelihood opportunities in major cities across Pakistan.

In a historic move, the approval for Chitral Economic Zone has been secured, marking a pivotal step towards the area’s economic progress.

This achievement comes after 75 years of Pakistan’s creation and is a testament to the efforts of Sartaj Ahmad Khan, former Tehsil Nazim, and president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries.

Moreover, the provincial government has also allocated a substantial sum of Rs. 400 million to facilitate the swift and high-quality establishment of the Chitral Economic Zone.

The earmarked funds will support the development of essential infrastructure, including office facilities, roadways, drainage systems, tube wells, transformers, electricity provisions, and various construction projects.

Besides, the ambitious plans for the economic zone include the establishment of over a hundred factories, with a focus on industries such as marble production.

Furthermore, the zone aims to accommodate mineral and gemstone polishing and cutting, dry fruit processing, handicrafts, and embroidery centers for women.

Khabib Khan, the Economic Zone Manager, highlighted that the zone encompasses a forty-acre area, strategically designed to house diverse industrial zones.
