LAHORE: Punjab Governor and Chancellor Baligur Rehman has taken a proactive step by requesting a comprehensive report from Punjab University’s Vice Chancellor regarding the alleged corruption amounting to billions of rupees in the PU Town-III housing scheme.
The governor’s secretariat recently dispatched a letter to the Vice Chancellor of Punjab University, urging the prompt submission of a report concerning the affairs of the university’s Town-III housing scheme.
Earlier, the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) took serious note of the matter and initiated legal action.
An FIR (First Information Report) was lodged against several individuals, including prominent figures associated with the university.
The individuals named in the FIR include Prof Dr. Azhar Naeem, Dr. Sajid Rashid Ahmed, Dr. Mehboob Hussain, Dr. Fakhul Haq Noori, former additional controller Sufi Jamil (members of the management committee), sub-registrar Rao Ansar, Khursheed (registry muharrar), developer Mian Javed, and Waqar Naeem, a major shareholder of the housing scheme’s development company.
Additionally, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has also taken significant steps by launching a money laundering investigation in connection with the PU housing scandal.
The individuals implicated in the scandal have been summoned to provide statements as part of the investigation process.
Besides, the alleged mismanagement revolves around the initiation of the project without proper approval from the PU syndicate.
It is claimed that the land for the housing scheme was obtained questionably, using the names of committee members.
It is also worth noting that the society lacks the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from relevant authorities such as the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and other concerned departments since it was launched back in 2016.
