QUETTA: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to restore and repair all land linkages and highways in flood-affected districts of Balochistan to expedite relief and recovery efforts.
Recently, PM Shehbaz visited several flood-affected districts and was briefed by Chairman Khurram Agha on development and restoration efforts.
The Chairman said that the authority had effectively restored land links between the provincial capital and other key cities.
He further added that the Mansehra-Naran-Chilas N-15 National Highway, as well as the Karachi-Chaman N-25 Highway, which was swept away by the flood, had been reconstructed.
It was noted that traffic had resumed on the following routes:
- Quetta-Nushki section of the Lakpass-Dalbandin N-40 highway
- Chakdara-Dir section of the Nowshera-Chitral N-45 highway
- Rajanpur-Taunsa
- and D.I. Khan-Pezu sections of the Indus Highway
- the Sibi-Quetta section of the Sukkur-Quetta N-65 highway
- Fort Munro section of the Qilla Saifullah-Multan N-70 highway
- Alpari-Basham section on Khwazakhela-Besham N-90 highway
- Gilgit-Shandur section on Shandur Road N-140
The Karakorum Highway N-35, which was previously closed between Indus Kohistan and Hunza, has also been opened to traffic.
The PM commended the laborers and engineers who were working to repair the road infrastructure and offered a PKR 5 million relief payment for those who were repairing the highway as well as a PKR 1 million grant for those who were repairing pipelines that carried gas to Quetta and other locations.
Additionally, he pledged PKR 3 million to individuals who assisted in restoring the Bibi Nani bridge.
