The Capital Development Authority has plans to construct a new route between the Diplomatic Enclave and its extension in order to improve the security of embassies and consulates.
According to the details, CDA wants to connect two parts of the Diplomatic Enclave which will reduce the commute time with the existing route getting replaced with a new 3 km road.
This new route will go around 3rd avenue which is used by the general public.
It was also shared that this will provide the commuters an alternative way to Bari Imam and to the universities and colleges.
While talking to the media, a CDA official stated that the new project that the CDA had planned would aid in improving the security of the Diplomatic Enclave and will restrict access to sensitive areas.
Additionally, the government is expected to approve the project layout, which was earlier approved in 2007-08.
It is important to acknowledge that Islamabad’s Diplomatic Enclave, which houses foreign embassies, is a critical neighborhood. Therefore, to ensure security precautions, the government has labeled the area as sensitive, and commuters to the area have limited access.
According to sources, many embassies operate from residential areas of the city, posing a security risk that the government is working to alleviate.
