PESHAWAR: To ensure food security for the cropping season, 14,850 flood-affected farmers from Peshawar, Dera Ismail Khan, and Khyber Districts would receive 743 tonnes of certified wheat seed and 1,485 tonnes of fertilizer from USAID.
As per the details, USAID’s Economic Recovery and Development Activity (USAID-ERDA) and the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have initiated this venture to support the farmers affected by the recent devastating rains.
Furthermore, the flood-affected farmers of Mathra, Shah Alam, and Chamkani in Peshawar received 1,900 bags of certified wheat seed and 3,800 bags of fertilizer.
Additionally, with the help of USAID-ERDA, 1,900 flood-affected farmers would be able to grow wheat on their 1,900 acres of land during the Rabi season, which would ultimately assure food security by making enough wheat available for the upcoming harvesting season.
The sources informed that the USAID-ERDA assisted to ensure food security in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s flood-affected Dera Ismail Khan, Peshawar, and Khyber districts in response to a request from the provincial government.
Mohammad Israr Khan, secretary of agriculture, stated, “USAID has been quite generous in delivering their assistance, and we anticipate them to continue their support in the rehabilitation of our farmers.”
Besides, apart from providing wheat seed and fertilizer to 1,900 impacted farmers, USAID-ERDA also conducted an assessment in collaboration with the Agriculture and Livestock Department for transparent application of the aid.
