TEPA Plans to Construct Three Model Highways in Lahore

LAHORE: The Traffic Engineering and Planning Agency (TEPA) has devised an eight-point plan to construct three model highways in the provincial capital.

According to the plan, TEPA would build Jail Road, Mall Road, and Ferozepur Road using a sample infrastructure and traffic design.

The plan will put an emphasis on getting rid of encroachments, managing the tracks, marking zebra crossings with planes, fixing traffic lights, and taking stern action against illegal parking spots.

Additionally, the plan calls for replacing damaged boards and road cracks, creating additional green areas along the side of the road, repairing cat eyes and speed breakers, and widening roadways as needed.

TEPA established a committee under the leadership of Khak Antar Nima Salam in order to implement the eight-point plan.

It is worth noting that the three roads chosen for long-term signal-free roadways in the city are heavily used by commuters due to the presence of key government offices and civic services.

  1. I hope the motivation is creating practical value for the public. Instead of generating as much fine as possible.
There should be a rule that all fine collected by a department will go to welfare and other Gov projects. Cannot be used by Trafic police. This should improve their behaviour.

    1. In the on going development at Kalma Chowk I am disappointed that no effort is made to regulate traffic during the construction phase. Barriers are put up and no effort is made to ensure a smooth flow of the CURRENT traffic. That’s the next stage of the maturing process of development. I hope one day, it will be understood as being an important part of development. The aim should ALWAYS be to try and make the traffic flow as smoothly as possible. Just a little planning and this would be possible.

  2. Congestion charge should be imposed on the Mall. Widening and other infrastructure expansion along the Mall will suck in more traffic. The collateral damage anf destruction of century old trees will convert this Thandi Sarak into hellish corridor of heat and vehicular emissions

  3. Meaningless item giving no real information.
I like the idea of marking zebra crossings with planes!

    1. Circular road should also be considered às there is so much traffic crowd around Lohari gate and throughout Shah Alam market. More ever people should be educated about the rules of traffic and how to cross the road etc.

  4. The world over big cities have town centres. The benefits of having town centres are numerous. For that purpose such centres in big cities will be closed for any sort of traffic. Only pedestrians will be allowed to enter the town centres. All types of vehicles will divert at barriers. The barriers and then steps at points of entrance to town centres will not only stop vehicles to enter the town centres but also enhance beauty of these centres.

    1. We need to pay debts rather than focusing on fancy roads and mega construction project. Incompetency in our political and bureaucratic arena is at its peak. Instead of making LBD it would have been wise if investment would have been made to uplift the status of contemporary market places such as ShahAlam Markets etc. They have immense potential to generate revenue for the country and expansion of exiting market spaces.

  5. Any ambitious plan like this is only feasible when we have implantational strategy, which we do not possess. Plan like this are indeed not only possible they are also desirable. They create so much jobs and opportunities as well enhance local industries and train manpower. I wish lunch for the project provided it is wetted properly by all stakeholders without any intervention from unwanted quarters. Which will remain my major concern. Public review is the top issue that does not get proper and ample attention.

  6. Nothing will be of any use without proper and professional traffic management. Our traffic police works under horrendously bad conditions and trying to bring sanity to an insane public. However mostly instead of focusing on maintain good smooth flow of traffic all of them get involved in imposing traffic fines which one of them can easily do. Similarly at busy crossings traffic lights are not properly calibrated and tuned with the traffic flow resulting in a mess .
Traffic management needs scientific and professional training with fines that should not be less than 2,000 for motorcyclists and 10,000 to 25,000 for motorists especially who break red lights and use cell phones while driving

    1. There is no Master Plan of the city and hence no Master Traffic Plan!!
These projects are just the ways to earn some commission for the LDA and Tepa and Nespak alike! And of course point scoring by the provential governments as there are no local Government has ever been actually in Place!!!
